Empowering Collaboration on One Health: Spain–Zimbabwe Outreach and High-Level Dialogue

The Embassy of Spain in Zimbabwe, together with AECID, ACESDA – ACE Sur de África, and WHO Zimbabwe, successfully convened a landmark Spain–Zimbabwe One Health Dialogue in Harare on 24 November 2025. The Dialogue is part of Spain’s Science Diplomacy Agenda to strengthen international cooperation and scientific exchange across Africa.

The One Health approach recognizes the interconnectedness between human, animal, and environmental health and has become indispensable for addressing global challenges such as antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic disease spillovers, climate-related health burdens, food safety threats, and ecosystem degradation.

Can advanced analytics unlock drought resilience in livestock?

The potential of data to transform our rangeland systems is immense. Around the world, data-driven tools are reshaping how farmers optimise production, manage inputs, and enhance resilience. Yet, rangeland management and livestock breeding have often lagged behind—particularly in this part of the world.

Despite the central role of livestock and rangelands in Namibia’s economy and livelihoods, there remains a significant gap in the use of data within the sector. The shortage of data-analytic skills across sub-Saharan Africa continues to limit progress in adopting evidence-based, technology-driven solutions.

Nigerian Women Use Namibian Rangeland Data to Propose Bold Policy Actions for the Livestock Sector

A groundbreaking all-female hackathon in Kaduna, Nigeria, brought together women in data science, agriculture, climate, and technology to co-design solutions for livestock systems using African data. The program showcased actionable insights, gender-inclusive approaches, and cross-border collaboration for sustainable rangeland management.

Namibia’s voice on data: Co-designing a New and Open Dataset for Rangeland and Pasture Management.

Representatives of key stakeholders in rangeland management from the public and private sectors, as well as researchers, students, and farmers, convened on 23 April at Roof of Africa in Windhoek. The objective was to collaboratively design the upcoming open dataset for rangeland and pasture management for Namibia.

The first ever Spain Namibia Climate Forum was held in Windhoek, Namibia, earlier this week.

The platform, held at the Roof of Africa Hotel and online, aimed to foster cooperation and dialogue on climate change between Spain and Namibia. Under the theme “Targeting resilience: Harnessing Spanish and Namibian Climate Solutions”, experts, researchers, stakeholders, and the public from both countries were urged to collaborate to address this global challenge.
